It has now been revealed that John Njaramba Kiruga, who died during the latest attack on a Mandera bound bus by Al-Shabaab, was returning home after facilitating a peacemaking seminar in Garissa and Mandera.
It is reported that the seminar was sponsored by Covenant World Relief (CWR).
Just days before his death, Njaramba had emailed his wife, Freshia Wambui, saying, “I am in Garissa. We had really good peace training yesterday. Kindly pray for us and pray for Kenya. Mandera is not all that safe for now, but we have to preach peace at all cost. John.”
To the time of his death, Njaramba served as the moderator of the Evangelical Covenant Churches of Kenya. He was also the pastor of a local ECCK church congregation in Dagorreti, which he had personally founded.
He left behind a widow, Freshia Wanjiru and their two sons aged 17 and 9.
