A church organization has rolled out a Youth Training Loan Scheme targeting to benefit over 200 college students in Nakuru County.
The church, New Hope Christian Centre, with branches around Nakuru County will sponsor students from poor backgrounds who are enrolled in tertiary and technical colleges within Nakuru County starting from May this year.
Reverend Mika Nyongesa, head of the community services and training committee of the church told this writer that the project is being partly sponsored by the church’s international partners to eradicate poverty and unemployment among Christian youths in the county.
According to Reverend Nyongesa, the committee has already embarked on a registration exercise by targeting college students’ youth, who are members of the church, but said the project would go beyond the board to target other students from poor backgrounds.
“This charity work will aim at fighting unemployment and poverty levels among marginalized people in the county. We target to benefit over two hundred college students, most of whom are Christian youth within our church and others. It is a sponsored project that will benefit the church in many ways,” he said.
According to the church leader, an American Christian organization called Citizens of the World Development Programme (CWDP) will give out Sh5 milion to roll out the programme that will turn out to be an education foundation targeting Christian college students.
“This programme is both short and long termed. It will ensure that many of our youth embrace Christianity as an abiding moral character that will go a long way in creating responsible citizens while eradicating unemployment and poverty,” added the leader.
