Eldoret residents are set to benefit from toilet facilities donated by a section of their local religious leaders. This will be done through the groups’ collaboration with a local donor who preferred to remain anonymous.
Speaking in Eldoret on Thursday, the Eldoret Gospel Ministers Fellowship chair Bishop Julius Asango said that they are targeting Langas and Munyaka estates whose sanitation situation needs improvement.
“Sanitation is a basic human right. We want to make it possible for those who can’t access it, said Asango.
Construction of the facilities awaits land donation from the county government of Uasin Gishu. He explained that once completed, the facilities will be managed and maintained by the Eldoret Gospel Ministers Fellowship.
The members of the public will be required to pay some charges at a subsidized rate for the maintenance of the facilities.
“We are helping the public but we need a little help from them. They will have to pay some coins for the water and tissue,” explained Asango.
The targeted estates carry the highest population in Eldoret with Langas estate being the most clustered estate.
This comes at a time when the country is beefing up its efforts to combat cholera. No cases of Cholera have been reported yet in Uasin Gishu County and the move could help make Uasin Gishu a Cholera-free zone.
