Naivasha Member of Parliament Jayne Kihara has faulted protestant churches for calling for a change in law to expand the executive.
Kihara accused the National Council of Churches of Kenya (NCCK) of openly taking sides instead of defending the rule of law.
"We thought the Church should advise political players to follow the law when pushing for any kind of reforms," the legislator said on Wednesday.
This is after NCCK on Tuesday suggested the creation of the positions of prime minister, two deputies and official leader of opposition.
Through their Secretary General Rev Canon Peter Karanja, the clerics said the positions, created through parliament, would help promote inclusivity and ownership of government.
"Providing a position for the loser in an election will tone down emotions and feelings that a certain community is being targeted. Addressing these two problems will go a long way in creating inclusivity," Karanja said.
