Nakuru County Commissioner Mohammed Birik has asked churches and entertainment joints to step up security as residents would be thronging worship and entertainment places to usher in the New Year.
Speaking to news reporters at his office Wednesday morning, Birik said that security must be beefed at all places.
He asked churches, where worshippers will be attending ‘keshas’ to step up security checks and put in place appropriate measures that will ensure safety.
“We know that the year is ending today and that people will be thronging churches and entertainment places, our appeal is to the organizers to guarantee safety,” he said.
Birik said that enough security officers have been deployed across Nakuru and will be on standby to deal with any criminals.
The commissioner said that police will not give room to lawbreakers to disrupt peace, adding that those attending parties and keshas should behave in acceptable manner.
“Our officers will not hesitate to arrest those who will be found over indulging in activities such as excessive drinking and causing public nuisance,” he added.
Birik on the same note warned those who drink and drive saying that they will be arrested and locked up or fined.
He said that officials from the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) have been deployed at strategic roads to deal with drunk drivers.
The commissioner also warned motorists who over speed and flout traffic rules saying they will not be tolerated.
The commissioner said that road accidents are prone during this festive season and that every measure should be taken to reduce on the same.
