Churches from Machakos County have been urged to establish schools as a way of promoting level of education in the region.
Addressing Journalists in Machakos town on Saturday, nominated Member of County Assembly with CCU Party, Amina Mutio said it was prudent for churches to open up private schools to support education in the county.
"As a mother and an educationist, I call upon various churches in Machakos County to join hands in promoting education in this region by establishing schools," urged MCA Amina.
Amina argued that public schools in the county were overstretched by increasing numbers of children who seek education in the region hence reason for the call.
She said that the few public schools currently available within boundaries of the county were also ill equipped therefore compromising quality of education among children in the area.
The MCA argued that the most popular and dominant churches with branches in the county had better opportunities of establishing their own schools from Kindergarten to tertiary institutions due to population of their congregations who can easily contribute towards building learning institutions.
Amina said if the churches did so then the few public schools available in the county would improve in academic performance since numbers of children admitted would go down thereby making good use of little available facilities.
She said high numbers of children admitted in the school compromised academic performance hence poor results in most of them given that children were forced to share the little resources available.
The MCA noted that the area churches' interventions would also increase teacher to child ratio, thereby improving teachers attention to the pupils hence equally improving their performances.
