Christian leaders in Nyamira County on Sunday held special prayers at Gesiaga grounds and called on voters to come out in large numbers and vote peacefully during the upcoming August 8th general election.
Led by Nyamira conference elder Edwin Omboga the church leaders under the banner ‘Nyamira Church Forum’ said it was vital for the people to vote in a peaceful environment.
“We also want the electorate to vote in an environment devoid of intimidation or coercion from any quarters,” added Omboga.
He said the church has a vital role to play in bringing peace and preaching harmony in the country especially during electioneering periods, adding that the church will lead in praying for peace before, during and after the forthcoming elections.
He added that the prayers are powerful Christian weapons that can be used to intercede for elections.
“As the country moves closer to the August 8 date, our call to the electoral agency is to ensure peaceful and credible elections” he said.
The leaders also called upon the electoral body (IEBC) to ensure that they conduct free and fair election as Kenyans have confidence in them.
