Speaking on Wednesday in Mombasa at the Kenya School of Government, Khalifa faulted Mbita MP Millie Odhiambo for insulting President Uhuru Kenyatta.

"Police officers have totally closed their eyes. MPs are insulting and fighting each other on camera and they are now disrespecting the office of the President and ignoring the apex of symbol of unity in our country," said Khalifa.

"As religious leaders we are requesting Internal Security CS Joseph Nkaissery to arrest politicians making inflammatory remarks in public. We should not look at the titles they hold as no one is above the law,” he added.

He urged security organs to be vigilant and keep an eye on politicians who engage in hate speech that can trigger tension in the country, considering the rising political temperatures as we approach the general election.

"MPs engaged each other physically in Bungoma and Kakamega, but no action was taken against them. If the situation is not averted, we are likely to witness chaos in 2017,” he added.

He urged leaders to observe peace and unity regardless of their political affiliations.
