The Muslim Council of Imams and Preachers of Kenya (CIPK) is now proposing that aspirants eyeing various elective positions get clearance certificate from religious leaders before they can be allowed to participate in the August General elections.
This, the Uasin Gishu CIPK chairman Sheikh Abubakar Bini said will ensure only leaders with integrity are elective.
Speaking in Eldoret, Sunday, Bini also challenged the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to block all aspirants with questionable integrity issues.
"IEBC should be tough enough and ensure only qualified individuals are cleared for the elections. We expect politicians linked with corruption and other issues that taint their integrity to be blocked,," noted Mr. Bini.
"As religious leaders, we believe there is need for us to be involved in vetting aspirants and this is why we propose that it be a requirement for them to also have clearance certificate from their respective religious organizations," he added.
The CIPK Uasin Gishu chairman further challenged IEBC to put in place measures that will ensure they conduct a free and fair election free from manipulation from any political class.
