The Royal Media Services company that owns Citizen TV and Radio Citizen is set to embark on a massive retrenchment exercise to remain afloat in the dynamic broadcast industry.
Through an internal memo by Managing Director Wachira Waruru, RMS employees have been asked to prepare for massive job losses through retrenchment and retirements occasioned by the company’s poor returns in the recent past.
"The past two years have witnessed various developments within the broadcasting industry that have adversely affected our business environment," read the memo as reported by Tuko.
According to the director, the adverse effects of technological development on the broadcast industry has caught up with the company and the need to re-strategise will force a number of employees out.
"Unfortunately and regrettably, the action will result in the reduction of our workforce through job redundancies," the report further said.
Speculations within the Royal Media Circles indicate that over 100 employees will be forced to go on retrenchment to ease the wage burden on the company.
