Nairobi governor Mike Sonko has said that his government is in a rush to make the city a garbage-free zone.

Speaking after a strategic meeting convened between Devolution, Public Service and Administration minister Larry Wambua and the Justice and Legal Affairs Committee of County Assembly and the senior management staff of Security, Compliance and Disaster Management Sector on Friday, Sonko said his government would work round the clock to ensure the city is clean.

The following is the full statement on the meeting:

Today, the minister for Devolution, Public Service and Administration Larry Wambua held a meeting with the Justice and Legal Affairs Committee of County Assembly and the senior management staff of Security, Compliance and Disaster Management Sector.

The chairman of the committee reaffirmed the need for commitment to offer service delivery to Nairobians citing that Nairobi City County is the heart of Kenya and the gateway to East Africa and reiterated the need to support H.E The President of Kenya and H. E The Governor of Nairobi deliver their agendas.

Among the matters discussed, was the issue of garbage collection that requires fast tracking to make Nairobi clean. The members of the County assembly present said they are the foot soldiers on the ground and that they're ready to ensure that all sort of menace is reported for deliberation.

The minister told the meeting that his enforcement team is the eye of the County and a platform for reporting issues has since been created to provide a quick response on issues raised in various areas of concern.

The entire security sector team was appreciated for the role they took during the 2017/2018 festive season. The fire rescue and disaster management unit was much appreciated for its quick response to fires and emergencies.

The entire team is committed to change and do things differently to support the Governor serve Nairobians.
