Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko has vowed to streamline revenue collection and management to ensure efficiency and better service delivery to county residents.
This, noted Sonko, will be in line with the Public Finance Management Act.
The county boss made the remarks Wednesday after storming the city county’s cash office where he found Sh7 million in a drawer, the Nation has reported.
The money, said to have been collected the previous day (on Tuesday), was yet to be banked by the time Sonko and his deputy Polycarp Igathe stormed the office.
“Under my watch, City Hall has ceased to be anyone’s cash cow. We shall streamline revenue collection and management in line with the Public Finance Management Act and guarantee efficient and timely service delivery to all residents,” said Sonko.
He wanted to know why all cheques collected on Tuesday had been banked except for the hard cash that was yet to be deposited in the bank located nearby.
Sonko and his deputy were accompanied by other county officers during the sting operation.
Separately, Sonko held a series of talks with chief officers and also representatives from the Matatu Owners Association as he settles down to discharge his mandate.
