The Nairobi City County government has come out to clear the air over who will be holding rallies at the Uhuru Park grounds on Madaraka Day.
City Hall revealed that Cord party is allowed to hold its Madaraka Day meeting at the grounds situated for June 1.
According to Robert Ayisi, the county secretary, the opposition party has every right to use the ground since they had been permitted to hold their rally at the said venue.
‘'There were confusions that the grounds had been booked by the prayers beyond limit church for a prayer meeting which was to be held on the same date with the Cord rally. This, however, will not happen,’' said Ayisi.
He revealed that City Hall management has already written to church to revoke their prayer rally. Ayisi said Cord had already written to the office on May 22 asking for permission to use the grounds and that permission was granted to the opposition to hold the rally on May 25.
On the other hand, Ayisi said the church had paid some money to secure the grounds but permission was yet to be granted. He, however, said that the issue of issuing permits should be done by the county government. Ayisi also said the Madaraka Day celebrations in Nairobi will be held at the Starehe grounds.
