Nairobi County government has inked a deal with two hospitals to handle food testing in its hospitality industry before City Hall issues the certificates.

According to nation.co.ke, MP Shah and Nairobi Hospital have been tasked with the job.

County executive in charge of Health Dr Bernard Muia said the hospitals have the necessary equipment for the task hence the need to sign the MoU.

“We are entering into partnerships with these private hospitals who have the technology to examine the food industry when it comes to health in a bid to create service delivery to the people,” said Dr Muia.

He said talks are on to bring on board Mater Hospital.

He, however, clarified that there are different categories of food handlers and that not all will be examined by the Nairobi Hospital but special clientele such as the United Nations and five-star hotels.

Others outlets, he added, will be will be handled by county health workers.

The role of issuing the certificates will solely remain under the County Government while the hospitals carry out the examinations.
