City hall has announced that PSV Saccos whose members fake payment receipts to evade parking fees will be completely banned from operating within the city.
City Hall secretary Robert Ayisi has said that they will launch a massive crackdown on the vehicles denying the county its legal revenue through such illegal deals.
Since the time that the announcement was delivered, over 30 matatus and taxis have been impounded after their managements presented fake banking slips as payment for seasonal parking fees.
"City Hall will impose a ban on the alleged saccos in the event that any of their matatus is found with a fake receipt. This will largely serve as a lesson to other like-minded fraudsters doing the same," Ayisi stated.
Taxis and 14-seater matatus operating in Nairobi pay Sh5 000 for the seasonal tickets every month while those of higher capacities pay Sh7 250 per month.
Transport CEC Abdullahi Mohamed also said there are over 30,000 PSV matatus in the city yet only 17,000 are licensed to pick passengers within the CBD.
City Hall head of parking services Tom Tinega added that enforcement of county laws was a challenge, revaealing that over Sh20 million is lost every month through fake permits.
