The Karen Hospital (TKH) targets to perform over 200 heart surgeries this year, Chief Executive Officer Betty Gikonyo has said.
Gikonyo said the institution carried out 142 heart operations in 2017 both on adults and children, adding they will increase the number of operations in the new year in a move aimed at saving more lives.
The hospital boss said they were optimistic that more donors and well-wishers will come on board to support the institution with funds to conduct its operations.
"We target to raise a minimum of Sh20 million through our activities including the Karen Heart Run scheduled for March in Nairobi and Meru counties so that we use the money to operate more than 200 patients with heart and kidney problems," she said on Monday.
Gikonyo added: "The funds will also be used to train doctors and create awareness about heart diseases."
The CEO also noted its charity wing, Heart To Heart Foundation (HTHF), will increase its efforts to raise more funds to treat heart diseases in children below the age of 18 years.
"Majority of heart diseases are treatable if detected early," Gikonyo noted.
