Nairobi lawyer Donald Kipkorir has defended Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho’s academic qualifications, arguing that failure at the high school level does not kill one’s ambition in life.Kipkorir’s remarks come after Joho was asked to record a statement at the DCI offices for allegedly forging his KCSE results.Earlier on, Joho had called a press conference and admitted to scoring a D- in KCSE, adding that he was proud of his grades. Kipkorir, a University of Nairobi alumnus, backed Joho’s sentiments saying one can still make it in life with poor KCSE results.“Scoring D in exams is not failing in life. No one, not even an exam body can take away the lottery ticket of life that the heavens have assigned you,” wrote Kipkorir on social media. “The following people ‘failed’ in school and dropped out of Primary School ….. They were condemned by their societies, but we owe our civilization to them,” he added. The outspoken lawyer also said that Kenya has less than 600, 000 people with degrees.“Failing in school isn’t failing in life. In Kenya, with a population of 46 million, less than 600,000 are graduates … Can anyone say that 45 million plus Kenyans are doomed? he asked.Kipkorir cited different persons who have made it without tertiary education including the likes of Prof Ali Mazrui, former President Daniel Arap Moi, Alexander Graham Bell and Charles Darwin among others.
