Nairobi city lawyer and West Mugirango parliamentary seat aspirant Steve Mogaka has slammed opinion polls conducted by pollster IPSO Synovate as a fraud and challenged the company to use verifiable and scientific methods.
The company was subjected to attacks by the opposition Cord with some leaders accusing the researchers of being compromised by the government, few days after the polls showed that 35 percent of Kenyans were of the opinion that Raila Odinga retires.
Speaking in an interview at Egesa FM, Mogaka also questioned the number of respondents used by the company to arrive at a decision that reflects wishes of 40 million Kenyans.
“I am not saying that opinion polls are wrong all the times because I have seen them working elsewhere. However, I totally disagree with IPSOS because most of their research is a fraud. They do not use the scientific means to arrive their conclusions,” he said.
“For instance, you cannot use a sample of 2,100 people and purport to generalise the wishes of over 40M people. They must improve when coming with such critical information or risk losing trust from the public,” he said.
He urged all poll agencies to work impartially by giving accurate information on the ground by being objective and trustworthy.
“It’s a wakeup call for all pollster. They must remain impartial, and objective. For instance, it’s not fair to always base your polls at certain individuals yet we have a range of other issues that they should research on,” he said.
