Nairobi Lawyer Nelson Havi has said that he is ready to file a case against the police after one of the officers allegedly shot dead Meru University student leader during demonstrations regarding poor management of the Campus.
The lawyer said that if the family of the deceased permits him, he will ensure the police officer who committed the crime is brought to book and the family gets justice for the reckless incident.
In a statement posted on his twitter account, Havi said that the move will help in enhancing accountability of police officers in their mandate to serve the people and also put an end to police brutality.
"I will, if permitted by the family of murdered Meru University Student Leader Evans Njoroge, take up the case against the policeman and State (murder and wrongful death respectively) pro bono. Police impunity must end," Havi posted.
The Meru University Secretary General Evans Njoroge died yesterday after allegedly being shot by a police man.
Politicians and leaders of various entities across the country have condemned the killing with the most recent being Orange Democratic Movement Secretary General Edwin Sifuna who expressed his disappointment, saying that everyone must unite to ensure that extrajudicial killings are ended.
