A section of Members of Nairobi City County Assembly have thrown their weight behind Governor Mike Sonko after the resignation of his deputy Polycarp Igathe.
Led by Deputy Speaker John Kamau, the MCAs said Igathe's exit won't affect Sonko's agenda for the country's capital city.
"We are ready to support any proposal the governor puts forward. Igathe's resignation will not deter the governor's agenda for the Nairobi people," Kamau said on Monday.
Expressing similar sentiments, nominated Ward Representative Leah Naikanae claimed that some 'outside forces' keen to control Sonko's administration, fuelled his deputy's resignation.
Speaking when the governor opened the Nairobi City County Sectoral Committee workshop on Water and Sanitation on Monday, Naikanae said the Assembly would help Sonko deliver on his manifesto.
"We are aware of the actors that want to undermine you (Sonko). As MCAs, we will all back you and your decision in light of what has transpired," she said speaking at the PrideInn Paradise Beach Resort in Mombasa.
