Nairobi City Mortuary, one of the largest mortuaries in Kenya will soon be modernised if the 2016-17 spending plan is approved.
The mortuary will be renovated and modernised at a cost of Sh1 billion.
In the budget, the Nairobi County government also targets to buy land in neighboring Kajiado County in which another mortuary will be constructed.
The estimated land to be bought is 120 acres according to local media.
The land will replace the Lang'ata cemetery which is said to be overstretched.
According to Nairobi County Health Chief Executive Benard Muia, the county needs a new cemetery which should be acquired as fast as possible.
Mr Muia revealed that the county has identified a piece of land which will serve as a cemetery and that its location is not far from Nairobi.
''The land is along the border of Nairobi and our neighboring Kajiado county. We were forced to buy the land because of the issue at Lang'ata cemetery and the ever growing population of city dwellers,'' he said
