A Jubilee Party MP has appealed to President Uhuru Kenyatta to create a new ministry to look into the affairs of Nairobi City.
Embakasi North MP James Mwangi Gakuya said creation of Nairobi Metropolitan Development Ministry will complement the efforts by Nairobi City County government in making the 'City in the sun' a tourism and economic hub.
"We are asking the President to consider forming a ministry for Nairobi Metropolitan. This will be a major move in efforts to create a 24-hour city which will boost wealth creation and provide employment for millions of Kenyans," Gakuya said, speaking to Kameme FM on Monday.
The ministry of Nairobi Metropolitan Development was first unveiled by retired President Mwai Kibaki on April 2008 through a presidential decree.
Among the Ministers who served in the docket are the late Mutula Kilonzo, former MPs Njeru Ndwiga (Ndia) and Jamleck Kamau (Kigumo).
However, President Uhuru scrapped the ministry when he took over power in 2013.
On Friday the President unveiled the first batch of the Cabinet, retaining six current Cabinet Secretaries and naming three new-comers.
Uhuru is expected to name the rest of the Cabinet bosses and unveil new ministries this week.
