Police have launched investigations into an incident in which a woman claims she lost Sh4.8 million and a gun in Nairobi’s Westlands.
According to the Standard, Kilimani police boss Peter Katam said the complainant who reported the incident at the station, said unknown people broke into her house on Rhapta Road on Sunday evening and escaped with the money which was both in local and US currencies.
She said the thieves also fled with an Eclairs Coach shotgun that was in the house.
The Standard added that the woman's husband, a licensed gun-holder, is said to have been away in Kitengela when the incident took place.
She told police she had gone for shopping on Sunday evening but when she returned home, she found her house broken into and the Sh4.2 million and US$6,000 missing.
She added that her husband arrived at the house when she called him and found the safe where both the gun and money had been kept, vandalised.
"This is a house-breaking incident and the complainants say they lost money and a gun. It is serious and we are investigating," said Katam as quoted by the Standard.
The couple with their son who was with the mother when she reported the matter have been questioned as part of the probe into the incident.
Katam advised residents to keep their money in banks.
