The government has been urged to ensure its workers receive proper medication under the National Health Insurance Fund scheme.
Kisumu East Kenya Civil Servants Union Vice Chairman Edward Kojiema said civil servants are not getting proper medication under the scheme.
Mr Kojiema said the scheme should give full medication to the civil servants yet this is not being adhered to by the hospitals.
He said the union members’ dues are being deducted every month and asked the government to ensure they get good medication.
“Our members need proper medication, we will not accept cases where our members are not given adequate medication,” he said.
Speaking to the press in Kisumu on Thursday, Kojiema said hospitals will be held liable if the union members fail to get comprehensive treatment.
He said that in most cases when union members are sick they fail to get proper medicines from the hospitals.
Kojiema who is contesting for the chairmanship of the union Kisumu branch says that his members are always forced to go and buy medicine outside the hospital.
He said that in such instances, the hospital should compensate its members since all the money for their medication had been channeled to NHIF.
“Every month good amount of money is being deducted and channeled to NHIF, we now demand that our members are not frustrate in accessing health services,” he said.
Kojiema said he will continue capacity building his members so that they get acquainted with their rights in regard to health.
