Civil servants in Kiambu have been assured that their rights will be fought for by the leaders of their union and all issues facing them will be addressed objectively. The civil servants union chairman, Noah Kipkemboi, said that there were complaints about some workers receiving their salaries in instalments while others got paid as late as the 19th day of the month. Speaking during a meeting called by the region’s civil servants’ leaders at a Thika hotel, Kipkemboi said that the union will advocate for collective bargaining agreements which will see all devolved civil servants receive their dues, rights, incentives and full salaries in time. The meeting was called to deliberate and arrive at a solution for the problems being experienced by the servants as well as share their achievements. The civil servants, however, accused the union leaders of failing to fight for the workers’ rights and siding with the government instead of lobbying for them. The workers have been complaining about being sacked by the county governments after being termed ‘ghost workers’. Kipkemboi added: “All civil servants should register with the union. This will give the union power like the famous teachers’ unions which are best known all over the country for mobilising teachers and for successful collective bargaining.”
