Speaking at a capacity building workshop for Non-Governmental Organisations and Community Based Organisations at Nuru Hotel in Nakuru town, Muchiri noted that civil societies in Kenya are experiencing political intimidation.

“It is civil societies duty to play watch-dog role over the government’s performances and other public institutions,” said Muchiri.

He noted that the works and operations of the civil societies in the country are enshrined in the constitution but the architects of poor governance and impunity were trying to muzzle the operation.

He challenged the executive to stop using parliament to pass laws that contradicts rights of the civil societies in the country.

Muchiri urged the civil societies organisations in the county to be active in public affairs awareness campaigns so that wananchi are kept informed about their government’s performance.

He in particular urged the public watchdog groups in Nakuru County to promote awareness of the government’s expenditure and distribution of public resources like jobs, projects, funds and property.
