Civil Society is now accusing the Jubilee government of undermining their work by silencing them through deregistration.
Director centre for human rights and democracy Ken Wafula said the government is keen to dismantle the operations of some human rights groups in the country.
Wafula said deregistration of some civil society groups in Mombasa is a manifestation that the government is not friendly to the civil society groupings.
He said the terrorism link to the deregistered groups is a scheme by the government to rein in on more groups that are fighting for the welfare of Kenyans.
Wafula said it is now clear that the government is not ready to take any criticisms from any quarter in the country.
“The government is fighting us and we will not accept it,” he said.
Addressing a press conference in Kisumu on Friday, Wafula who was once the chairman of the NGO board, warned the board not to be used by the government to fight civil society.
He said the board and the government should give a conducive environment for civil society to operate in.
Wafula said funders of the organisations that were deregistered will shift base to other civil society to continue with their work.
