Chief Justice David Maraga on Saturday called on Christians to apply integrity and moral principles in their places of work.
He said the country had been plagued by instances of professed Christians acting contrary to the gospel in the Bible.
“For a long time, we have had the problem of Christians who profess one thing but do the opposite while serving in various capacities in public offices. This has contributed to the skepticism that many people display towards civil servants and private sector staff who also attend church,” the CJ said.
He asked practising Christians to apply biblical teachings as a way to eliminate corruption, inefficiency and favoritism in the course of their duties.
“If all of us who belong to the Christian faith actually did their work according to biblical principles of honesty, integrity and high moral standards, we would quickly eliminate much of the alleged corruption, inefficiency and favoritism in public offices,” said the CJ.
He was speaking at Kisii Central Church in Kisii Town where he attended Sabbath worship on Saturday.
The CJ, who describes himself as a committed Seventh Day Adventist, said he regarded his appointment as God’s way of communicating a message to the Kenyan people.
“I still believe to this day that God used my interviews which were publicly televised and viewed across the world as a way of bringing glory and honour to his name,” Justice Maraga said.
He asked Kenyans to pray for his tenure, saying he would not waiver from what the law required.
He was accompanied by Turkana Presiding Judge Justice Stephen Riechi and lawyer Ken Nyaundi.
Seventh Day Adventist South Kenya Conference President Dr Chris Bichanga who delivered the sermon asked the faithful to shun corruption as an example of Christian purity and right living.
Quoting famous English 19th century preacher Dr Charles Spurgeon, he said a spotless reputation was the greatest mark of Christian faith in a church member.
“If we do not hate sin, then God has not touched our lives. Only when we learn to hate and fight that which is evil will he seen working in our lives,” said Dr Bichanga.
