The meeting, it is believed, is part of the wider scheme by Deputy President William Ruto to unite the populous community under one party given different voting dynamics in the past.

Absent from the meeting were Governors John Nyagarama (Nyamira), James Ongwae (Kisii), Senators Sam Ongeri and Okong'o Mogeni.

But Maraga, a respected force within the Church and the Judiciary, was among the few invited guests in the meeting convened by North Mugirango MP Joash Nyamoko.

Sources privy to the ongoing retreat intimate that Maraga was invited courtesy of his senior position in government and as an elder.

Interior Cabinet Secretary, who is also believed to be among forces behind the unity, is said to have flown to London to pay courtesy call to ailing Simon Nyachae.

It is not clear why the top leadership skipped the meeting but sources say that the two governors and senators were concerned that it had been turned to a Jubilee affair.
