Chief Justice David Maraga has called upon leaders in Kisii to help the community settle land disputes out of court to reduce the number of succession cases pending in courts and hasten justice.
Speaking on Wednesday at the Kisii Law Courts, Maraga urged the leaders to impress on the locals to seek alternative mechanisms, saying such cases dragged for long due to few adjudicating staff members and caused congestion.
The Judicial boss said that the courts are small since they can accommodate groups of people especially after the general elections when there could be petitions thus sorting land cases outside the court will reduce the congestion of case files in the courts.
He noted that the Judiciary is in full support of devolution governance.
CJ Maraga assured Kisii county government that once the construction of a county court is complete, he will appoint a resident magistrate to the court to help the main law courts to handle minor cases.
