Embattled Chief Justice David Maraga has bashed members of the public and politicians against interfering with independence of the judiciary, making reference to demonstrations that occurred in Kerugoya Law Courts.
For the last couple of weeks, the judiciary has found itself in most awkward position with members of political class attacking its independence.
And in Nairobi, Maraga condemned an incident where former Justice Minister Martha Karua was blocked by a section of supporters allied to Governor Ann Waiguru of Kirinyaga.
“Judiciary cannot succumb to pressure from the executive and parliament. We shall continue executing our mandate as enshrined in the law,” he said.
Maraga, who was responding to criticism launched against Supreme Court added:”For instance, those who blocked Karua from accessing Kerugoya Law Courts should respect the rule of law.”
Karua, a renowned crusader of pluralism, has taken Waiguru to court over what she terms as ‘grave irregularities’ in August 8 polls.
Although the two were contesting on different parties, they had however vowed to support reelection of Uhuru Kenyatta.
