The surprise peace deal between President Uhuru Kenyattta and his political nemesis Raila Odinga has been hailed as 'significant' by Chief Justice David Maraga.
While the deal is still facing resistance from a section of Raila's NASA wing, Maraga says the move was a 'blessing' to a polarised nation.
"It is good that President Uhuru and Raila have come together. Let us talk unity and peace," he told a congregation on Wednesday in Westlands during a requem mass for Prof. Oeri Tumbo.
He added: " It is even significant and a blessing because we dearly needed it. This is the time to heal our country."
Last year, Maraga came under immense criticism from the executive after nullifying Uhuru's victory with the president vowing to 'fix' the judiciary.
In recent weeks, the executive wing of government has denied claims that Uhuru is keen to kick out Maraga from the helm of the judiciary.
