Chief Justice Willy Mutunga has called upon the national assembly to continue allocating more funds to the judiciary. Mutunga said the funds to the judiciary have helped in transforming the courts countrywide. He said MPs should know that their electorates are the beneficiaries of the courts within their regions. “The MPs should know that courts we are building are for their people and they should ensure they allocate more funds to the judiciary,” he said. The CJ said his commitment is to ensure there are enough courts in the country to cushion Kenyans from travelling long distances to seek justice. He said that inadequate court infrastructure is a product of official neglect and internal corruption and he is out to revamp and put up new courts in the country. Speaking when he presided over the opening of the newly built Kisumu court, Mutunga said the judiciary has faced financial constraints in the past. He said the funds are playing a pivotal role in ensuring that courts are established for the Kenyan people. Mutunga said the underfunding has led in the past to slow down judiciary work.
