A clan in Kisumu has been tasked to pick a candidate who will become governor, Kisumu County.

The candidate will battle it out with other candidates for the position from other political parties since he/she will wield the ODM flag during the polls.

The exercise that will be conducted on November 18, by the Dwond Kisumo clan will see Governor Jack Ranguma, Senator Anyang Nyong'o and businessman Hezron McO'bewa tussle for the seat.

Clan chairman John Ombija said Kisumu West residents are part of the dialogue that will determine the next county chief.

He said residents from Kisumu East, Kisumu Central, Nyakach, Nyando, Muhoroni and Kisumu West will take part in the dialogue.

“At the back of our minds, we want to announce a position in the governance and management of resources in the county because we believe we have competent and highly intelligent people who can manage the county well," Ombija said as quoted by the Star.

“As Kisumu West constituency people, we want to participate fully in the dialogue that will form the next Kisumu government."

Others in the race include WFP employee Asaka Nyangara, architect Christopher Ondiek, banker David Wayiera, former lecturer Gordon Okumu, surgeon James Obondi and Deputy Governor Ruth Odinga.

According to the ODM Constitution, all candidates seeking for political position are supposed to undergo party primary elections.
