Kiamaina MCA Samuel Kamau has initiated a project that will see boys get circumcised for free after finishing Class Eight. Kamau said the exercise will start late November and that the whole process will be done by professional health medics unlike for the past when it was conducted by villagers. “Male circumcision is crucial as it prevents both partners from prostate and cervical cancer infections because it enables one to observe high levels of hygiene after sex. The uncircumcised find it difficult to maintain hygiene,” said Kamau. He said that over 50 males have been registered for the programme in a month and was optimistic that the turnout would go up. He however noted that some adults shun the procedure out of fear that they will take longer to heal. Kamau assured that volunteers will receive proper medical service. “After the exercise, and one can still go to work without suspicion from others. Thereafter, the medics do follow-ups to ensure their client is doing well,” he said. He said early circumcision is one of the ways to fight the HIV/Aids scourge in the region.
