Speaking at the slums on Tuesday, the newly posted Thika sub-county Youths Officer Patrick Muema, said that those leavers who will miss on secondary schools have an option of joining polytechnics and technical colleges.

"There is no time to sit back and start whining, wondering or justifying why you did not make it to high school. There is an option because the county government has now invested in more polytechnics in the sub-county where youths who miss out on secondary schools can train for craft courses," said Muema.

He noted that many youths in Thika sub-county are making a living from technical jobs after acquiring skills in those polytechnics.

"I have seen very many youths around Thika doing some Jua-kali jobs and coming out with very desirable products. The items are on demand and some of them have even managed to open shops where they sell those items in wholesale or retail," he added.

More than 200,000 students nationally who sat for last year KCPE exams will miss out on secondary schools intake.
