The Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves, GACC, has introduced cookstoves in Uasin Gishu County that do not emit smoke in an effort to minimise the number of deaths that result from inhaling smoke.
The GACC Regional Market Manager, Daniel Wanjohi has said they have already identified groups that will be used to sensitize Kenyans on the usage and the importance of the stoves nationwide.
"We would like to transform people's lives through the usage of clean energy. We are concerned about how our people cook because most of them use biomass, we want all Kenyans to be using clean energy by the year 2020," said Wanjohi.
Wanjohi added that more than 70% of Kenyans use biomass energy for heating and cooking in an open fire, which he said, exposes them to various respiratory problems.
He has indicated that the stoves will be sold at low price to make them affordable to all. WHO recent report shows that the number of deaths from smoke that people inhale while cooking has reached 41 million.
