Nairobi County has increased its capacity to improve garbage collection after the purchase of 17 trucks to help in the process.
Environment County Executive Peter Kimori said this has increased county’s garbage collection’s capacity by about 20 per cent, saying the county government is seeking to improve it even further in the future.
He also confirmed that plans are underway to purchase 51 more trucks in the next three months to further improve the city clean-up process.
“We generate about 2,500 tones of solid wastes every day, and this must be removed from the public and be transported to Dandora,” Kimori said.
“We have bought 17 trucks for garbage collection. We have also bought 20 skippers”
He also pointed out that plans are underway to combat the waste at the Dandora dumpsite in order to stretch its life by further 5 years.
“For Dandora, we have also bought an equipment called a compactor, which combats the garbage so that the trucks which are bringing in garbage can pass on top of garbage. This was delivered three weeks ago and it’s working very efficiently,” he said
“Dandora site is tending to end its life but because of the compactor we’ve stretched its life by another five years,” he added.
