There is a high demand for cleaning services in Nakuru town and yet few people are venturing into the area.

Speaking to this reporter in Nakuru, the pioneer of cleaning services in Nakuru Town, George Kuria, said there are only two registered companies and they are overwhelmed by the high demand for their services.

''When I registered my company 10 years ago and getting business was an uphill task. In the last five years however, I have increased my workforce to 70 people and surprisingly the demand is still high,'' said Kuria.

Kuria urged the jobless youths to pool resources and form cleaning business since Kenyans have embraced the services they offer.

He added that the construction of shopping malls in the town has also contributed to the demand of their services

“A dirty mall cannot attract shoppers and that is why owners ensure that they higher experts to maintain cleanliness in the area,” said Kuria.

Kuria added that his company now offers twenty four hour services in order to meet the demands of their customers.

He said he pays his workers a starting salary of Sh 7, 000 and those who have stayed long with him earn as much as Sh 15,000.

He urged even ‘mama nguos’ (ladies who wash clothes for people) to register companies instead of doing it solo which makes it difficult for them to negotiate for better payments.
