Clearing and forwarding agents at the Port of Mombasa have threatened to paralyse the sector through a strike if the Kenya Revenue Authority does not address the issue of licensing. The agents under their umbrella body, The Kenya International Freight and Warehousing Association, said the issue of not giving them licenses for 2017 is a move by cartels to ‘collude with the KRA Commissioner General John Njiraini to push them out of the business.'KIFWA National Chairman, William Ojonyo, during their election in Nairobi on Thursday at the Unity Club, said that their Executive officer had met KRA and they were hoping for an early solution failure to which they will down their tools.“The executive officer was called and I hope there will be a way forward. KRA has remained silent on this issue,” Ojonyo said.In addition, Ojonyo in his maiden speech as KIFWA’S new chair said that they are planning to partner with competent companies for their members to get maximum benefits.“We want to make the association better. Our members will also be trained,” he added.
