Floppy Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has come into the defense of his boss President Uhuru Kenyatta over using of public schools for political rallies.
The firebrand CS had initially banned using of school fields and buses in political activities two slightly over two months ago.
Ironically though, Matiang’i on Tuesday accompanied Kenyatta in his vote hunt in Kisii on Tuesday and held a mega rally at Masimba High School.
“What the president simply did was not a rally. He was issuing cheques to locals and that was an ideal place,” he told Egesa FM on Thursday’s interview.
He added: “As the president, he was visiting locals and the institution was an ideal place to issue the cheques. We did not campaign as people say.”
During the visit, Kenyatta issued a whopping Sh358 million to IDPs who had been displaced in 2007/08 violence that rocked the country.
And evidently, photos circulating in social media showed a host of school children in attendance of the president’s rally.
