A Banana-based clergyman has called for urgent dialogue between striking teachers and the government to resolve issues surrounding the strike.
Apostle Isaiah of Church of Christ said that the education crisis may plunge the nation into a lawlessness nation.
“When these children do not go to schools, they will involve themselves into criminal activities,” said Apostle Isaiah.
He said that many students would seize the presence of strike to perpetrate evil schemes in society.
“An empty mind is the devil’s workshop so when these children do not go to school, they will involve themselves in crime,” he said.
Speaking yesterday at the church's ground at Banana, Ndenderu Ward, Kiambaa sub-county during a special session to pray for government to resolve the biting teachers' strike, Apostle Isaiah said that the cat and mouse chase would not solve the issue of the strike.
“The threats being issued by the government and the TSC will not help solve the biting strike by teachers. Amicable dialogue will be ultimate solution,” he said.
The teachers strike has now entered its second week with both parties accusing each other of ignoring their demands.
Apostle Isaiah said that the dispute between the striking teachers and the government is infringing the children’s' right to access education.
“Our constitution guarantees our children the right to education and it is unfair to deny them that,” he added.
Apostle Isaiah also urged the National Assembly to step in to help reach a deal for the interest of the children.
