The Uthiru clergy has challenged the government to deal with the radicalization that breeds terrorism.
Pastor Edward Kamau of Uthiru Church of Christ said that the nation is reeling in the aftermath of the Garissa attack and that many citizens have had a difficult time coming to terms with the attack.
Speaking on Sunday at Uthiru Trading Center during a church service the clergy said that the whole country is in a state of uncertainty and fear following the Garissa Attack.
“The government should mobilize all its security apparatus to quell all those perpetrating terrorism,” said Kamau.
Kamau said that the radicalization has sown fear among students who still lived fear of being attacked.
“Even a bang of a falling tree near a school is enough to send students stampeding,” said Kamau.
Kamau’s remarks come in the wake of the Saturday event when the University of Nairobi students at Kikuyu campus were injured in a stampede after a power transformer exploded leaving one student dead and other 141 seriously injured .
The clergy also urged the government to withdraw its forces from Somalia.
“The only way to deal with Al Shabaab is to withdraw Kenya Defence Forces from Somalia,” said Kamau.
He said that the continued presence of KDF troops in Somalia was aggravating the insecurity in the country.
The clergy said that the soldiers should be brought home to help fight the Al Shabaab cells locally.
“The country is in shortage of security force and the continual stay of Kenyan soldiers in Somalia is adding no value to security,” said Kamau.
Kamau further urged Kenyans to unite against terrorism .
“We want all Kenyans of all wakes of life to unite and fight against terrorists,” said Kamau.
He however said that the issue of terrorism should not be politicized as many politicians were using the chance against terrorism to drag their opponents in uncalled accusations.
