Speaking on Sunday at the Limuru ACK Church during a funds drive in aid of the church, Bishop James Muchai said that legalising prostitution poses a great danger to our social fabric.

“Legalising prostitution will open doors to immorality especially the spread of HIV and Aids, child prostitution and drug abuse. The church opposes the legalisation of commercial sex to curb the spread of sexually transmitted diseases,” said Muchai.

He added that Christians should oppose the proposed sex trade bill as it is contrary to biblical teaching and African culture.

“The presence of prostitution in our midst threatens our social fabric which hinges on decent morals,” added the Muchai.

He added that the discrete nature of prostitution in major towns has increased cases of child prostitution since there are no rules governing the trade.

“Girls below 16 years sell their bodies to survive due to lack of regulations to curb the vice,” said the cleric.

Muchai urged the government to reject the calls from some members of the public who are advocating the legalisation of the trade.
