Religious leaders across the country have questioned election preparedness of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) with under three weeks to the polls.
Led by the Evangelical and Pentecostal Churches of Kenya chair Mark Kariuki on Tuesday, the clergymen challenged IEBC to test poll kits prior to the elections, arguing that this would demonstrate the credibility for IEBC to hold free, fair and credible elections.
“Credible polls cannot be realised if the IEBC is not doing its job effectively. The commissioners were given those positions to conduct transparent elections and that is why they should scrutinise these materials,” he said.
He further called on Kenyans to uphold peace ahead of the general elections.
“We should show tolerance to other people’s opinions and choices during this electioneering,” he said.
