Religious leaders in Kisii have raised alarm over mushrooming illegal children's homes in the county.
Led by Rev Abel Onchari, the clegrymen said the illegal homes were being operated by people running briefcase non-governmental organisations (NGOs) out to get funds from innocent donors.
"Needy children are being used by some greedy people to solicit for funds from local and foreign donors while using the money for their own gains," said Onchari, who runs Keumbu Holiness Children's Home.
He called on the Government to enact proper laws to protect the children from being misused.
"These fraudsters are taking pictures of the children and documenting false heartbreaking stories to get support," he said on Friday, as quoted by Daily Nation.
Onchari added: "The Government should move in fast and investigate the children's home and orphanages in the region to establish their authenticity."
