The head of the Anglican Church of Kenya Archbishop Jackson Ole Sapit has called on politicians seeking votes to do so in a peaceful way that will not divide the nation.
Speaking at Kabarak, Ole Sapit said a time has come that the politicians must think of the nation and the people first before thinking of their interests.
“As a nation we are calling for peace and as the politicians go around seeking votes we want to call upon them to ensure that they think of servant leadership,” he said.
The clergy also appealed to politicians to accept the outcome of the August polls reiterating that a true competitor is one who accepts the outcome of any competition.
He said it was wrong for leaders to fail to accept whenever they lose in a political contest adding that those to be subjected to turmoil in such scenario are the common innocent Kenyans.
He urged those who will not be satisfied with the outcome of the political contest to use the right channels of resolution including the law courts.
“We should be willing to accept the outcome of the August polls and if not satisfied then we have the right channels to address our grievances rather than holding Kenyans in turmoil,” he said.
The head of the Anglican Church in Kenya also called on fellow clergy men to ensure they play their neutral mediator role in ensuring that no political conflict goes unsolved.
He likened the church to the river between two ridges (Jubilee and Nasa) where the two can meet to quench.
“The church should not take sides but rather be neutral in ensuring that no conflict emerges between the two parties,” he said.
