Arch-Bishop Jackson Ole Sapit has asked the government to allow Nasa to conduct its planned swearing-in ceremony for the sake of peace in the country.
Ole Sapit says that if Nasa has to administer an oath to their principals, then they need to be allowed to carry on with the exercise and be given protection.
The head of the Anglican church in Kenya was speaking during a diocesan thanksgiving ceremony at St. Michael’s ACK Bondo.
He argued that there's no need for panic because ‘swearing in’ may not automatically give Nasa an opportunity to forcefully take over the government.
The prelate said that people should not be led into violence if the ‘swearing in’ ceremony must be there.
He pleaded with the Nasa leadership to also ensure that their supporters do not engage in violence.
Speaking at the same event, NASA MPs Gideon Ochanda (Bondo) and Otiende Amollo (Rarieda) stated that the ‘swearing in’ of Raila Odinga and his deputy Kalonzo Musyoka is unstoppable.
Nasa says the ceremony will be held on January 30 at Uhuru Park, Nairobi, despite the county government closing the park for renovations.
Amollo said that Nasa has no other option but to swear in Odinga and Musyoka, saying President Kenyatta's government is illegitimate.
