Mombasa Archdiocese Catholic Bishop Martin Kivuva has appealed to security agents in the county to provide enough security during the Christmas celebrations.Kivuva said some people do not understand the real meaning of Christmas as commemorated by Christians and instead use such opportunities to terrorise those attending night masses.Speaking on Sunday at the Holy Ghost Cathedral in Mombasa during a mass to commemorate the birth of Jesus Christ, Kivuva said cases of criminals targeting Christians going to churches at night have been reported in Kongowea and Kisauni areas. The Catholic Archbishop said that if police officers work together with the Clergy in the county and other parts of the region, residents will be assured of their security during the festive season.“Police should protect us as promised by Coast Regional Coordinator Nelson Marwa in our last meeting with him last week,” said Kivuva.Kivuva appealed to the Catholic faithful to ensure that they celebrate Christmas with the less fortunate in the society.“The real meaning of Christmas is when we share whatever we have with the poor, visiting those ailing in hospitals and praying for them as well as sharing our meals with the orphans, widows and street families,” he added.Meanwhile, Kivuva has asked parents in Mombasa and the entire Coast region to ensure that they protect their children during this festive season.Last week after holding a meeting with members of the clergy, Coast Regional Coordinator Nelson Marwa assured them that every church will be allocated enough security officers throughout the festive season. Is there a newsworthy accident, incident or event happening in Mombasa County that you want Hivisasa to cover?
