A religious leader in Subukia on Sunday took the issue of voter registration to the pulpit where she urged the church to take charge and ensure there is good leadership in the country.

The vicar of Kabazi parish of the Anglican church Rev Elisabeth Mwaura said Christians have a duty to ensure they elect good leaders in the country.

“You cannot pray for the nation and its leaders but you are not taking the initiative to elect them. No matter how much you pray, it will not make any difference. It will all be in vein if you do not register as a voter,” she said.

The reverend, while delivering a sermon at St. Paul’s church, said that every Christian has a right to participate in the leadership of the country by electing good leaders.

“Don’t be led by blind people. If you accept bribes and handouts from those who want leadership positions, you will suffer the consequences. Christians should know that if Kenya burns as it happened in 2007/08 post-election violence, everyone suffers regardless you are Christian or not,” she added.

Mwaura called on all Christians in the parish to register as voters and verify their details in the ongoing nationwide voter registration exercise before it ends.
